Alberto Tomba makes Braathen cry

Lucas Pinheiro Braathen made history at the Winter Olympics, becoming the first Brazilian skier to win a gold medal in the Olympic giant slalom. The new king of skiing also captured the first-ever gold for Brazil and South America at the Winter Olympics. In Bormio, Braathen edged out Switzerland&#8217s Marco Odermatt, a silver medalist, and France&#8217s Loic Mellard, a bronze medalist. “I cannot believe it” he said after the victory.

“I don&#8220t know what to say, a Brazilian Olympic champion in alpine skiing. I cannot believe it: in the first run I was solid, in the second run I felt I was not fast and I was chasing. Brazil’s first Olympic gold? It doesn’t matter which nations you come from or the color of your skin, if you believe in something you can do it. Anything is possible. Brazil will also be proud of this victory and can celebrate”, Braathen enthusiastically told Eurosport.

Braathen during the celebration also received an unexpected call, that of blue legend Alberto Tomba, who phoned him live: “Lucas, bravo! Congratulations”, the’former Azzurro outfielder told him. “Gold medal, gold medal for Brazil! Can you believe it”;
