Giada D'Antonio, bad injury in training

Giada D’Antonio, engaged in giant slalom training with her teammates in Toblach, fell after a straddle. The 16-year-old from Naples was immediately rescued by the technical and medical staff present on the slope. The MRI she underwent showed a sprained right knee injury, with suspected rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament. Her condition will be further evaluated in the afternoon by the Medical Commission, which will make a definitive picture of the situation.

The class of 2009 made her Olympic debut in the special slalom heat of the women’s combined team event on Feb. 10: she was the youngest Italian to be part of the expedition to Milan Cortina 2026.

Her participation in the Five Circles event had led to criticism from Ninna Quario, former skier and mother of Federica Brignone. “I do not agree with her presence – she had said on Radio Rai -Sports is the highest example in life of meritocracy. This girl has great talent, a fantastic future, she has shown that she is strong technically and mentally. But she does not have the credentials to be summoned to the Olympics. It could also prove to be a boomerang against her. Maybe then she will surprise us, but in the competitions she did comparing herself to other girls on the European Cup team, she never beat them. Why her and not a girl from 2002? This choice sincerely but I do not agree’agree”.

Lindsey Vonn meanwhile is back on speaking terms: “Here in the hospital it has been very hard days” she said in a video posted on her Instagram profile, “I finally feel more like myself but I have a very long road ahead of me. Tomorrow I will have another surgery, then if it goes well I hope I can leave the’hospital and go home, where I may need another surgery”. The champion suffered a compound fracture in her left tibia, which is currently being treated with an external fixator, shown in a photo of the athlete on social: “I don“t know exactly what this will entail, but more or less the situation is like this. I am here really bad, but I have a lot of friends and family to keep me company”.

The 41-year-old skier thanked the fans for their affection and for the many letters of solidarity she has received in recent days. Meanwhile, she tries to follow the Olympics as best she can: “Go Team USA, you are wonderful to watch. Onward and upward, I am watching you”. Vonn did not regret trying to do the downhill with a broken knee: “I also knew that racing was a risk. Always has been and always will be: an incredibly dangerous sport. And just like in downhill skiing, in life we take risks. We dream. We love. We throw ourselves. And sometimes we fall”. “Sometimes the heart breaks. Sometimes we do not achieve the dreams we know we can achieve. But that is also the beauty of life: we can try. I have tried. I dreamed. I launched myself”.
