Federica Brignone arrives right on time to another appointment with history: the Aosta Valley Tiger goes for another gold medal in Milan Cortina 2026, winning the women’s giant slalom after having already been able to take the gold in Super-G in these Winter Olympics. The Italian star, in the lead after the first run, did not betray expectations in the second run, even going on to increase her lead over the other two athletes who finished on the podium, Sweden&#8217s Sara Hector and Norway&#8217s Thea Louise Stjernesund, tied for silver.

The Tiger of La Salle once again chooses the hardest road: starting over.
First timed run: time of 1'40"66 coming down among the last after the'fog interruption.
Solid skiing and good lines without forcing, encouraging signs after a few weeks on skis.
"I’m happy, I made a few mistakes and the snow was very soft".

"The jumps are pretty high, I tried to be soft and stay centered".
The palmarès speaks for itself: seven crystal balls, five world medals and three Olympic medals.
The'only missing piece remains the Olympic gold, Milan-Cortina is a personal challenge.
Brignone proves she is back not only to participate, but to really try.

Delusion for Sofia Goggia, on the other hand: the Bergamasque, third after the first run, slips away from the positions useful for the podium after the second run and finishes in tenth position. Nice comeback instead for Lara Della Mea, who was able to dream of the podium until the last: for her, fourth place overall, just five hundredths of a second from the two athletes who climbed the middle step of the podium, and some regret for the time of the first run, which had earned her the fifteenth partial position.

As for the other Italian in the race, good fourteenth place for Asja Zenere, who was good at regaining eight positions in the second run. The one won by Federica Brignone was the 20th overall medal, in order of time, for the Italian delegation in Milan Cortina 2026, the seventh total gold. Another success that was truly unthinkable until a few weeks ago, when the Valle d’Aosta native was in the midst of rehabilitation and was not even sure she would be able to take part in the home Olympic event.

Already at the conclusion of the first run, Brignone had not hidden her optimism: “The snow is very easy and the course is nothing special: you just have to go straight – she had said -. Apart from the first few turns it is really easy, I tried to attack, to be clean and smart on the changes of terrain”.

“At the end you have to reverse before the bump, like in Super-G, it was easier for me. I made a correct run and it came out well” the words of the Tiger, who in the second run would further unleash, giving the blue colors and all Alpine skiing fans another legendary day.
