Five hundredths, a blink of an eye: that is the distance between Lara Della Mea and the Olympic podium, narrowly missed in the Milan Cortina 2026 giant slalom after a splendid second run, in which she recovered as many as nine positions but did not prevent Sara Hector, Thea Louise Stjernesund and Federica Brignone from overtaking her right in the final of the second run. No small regret, mitigated, however, at the end of the race by Brignone’s embrace, a splendid winner of another legendary Olympic gold medal.

“This dream eluded by just five hundredths, but it was a huge thrill to be here and to be able to play it all the way to the end for the podium – commented the Italian skier, who will also be engaged in the special slalom scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 18, with renewed ambitions -. I missed the first run, unfortunately, but I am very happy with how the second went. However, I congratulate Federica: she was very good, wonderful and incredible”.

Davide Graz, Elia Barp, Martino Carollo and flag bearer Federico Pellegrino cheered for the splendid bronze in the men’s cross-country relay.

Already starring in the World Cup with outstanding results (six times in the Top 10, best result the sixth place in the special slalom in Kranjska Gora), Lara Della Mea strongly believes she can redeem the bitterness of the fourth place in the last race of the Olympic program in the alpineos ci. “It has been a whole season that I show that I am a different athlete’she said -. I found within me an extraordinary strength and I put it on the track, even today. And it is not over: now the slalom will come. I will try again, with the same determination”.

Lara Della Mea achieved an overall time 67 hundredths slower than Federica Brignone, winner of the Olympic giant slalom, while Hector and Stjernesund, silver medalists ex-aequo, edged her by 5 hundredths. Della Mea was the second best Italian skier and placed ahead of Sofia Goggia, 10th overall, and Asja Zenere, 14th.
