L'Inter enjoys a super Pio Esposito but Lautaro Martinez taboo remains
L’Inter beat, in a photo finish, Juventus. A success that certifies its flight to the Scudetto. A victory in which, once again, Pio Esposito also put his signature on it. The young Azzurri striker continues to be instrumental in a season in which he is really making a very important contribution to the Nerazzurri cause. The one against the Bianconeri, is the fourth goal in Serie A, the sixth of the season, the first scored against Juventus, Inter’s historical rival.
“Evenings like these are the ones you dream about when you start playing soccer as a kid. The most I could get was a win with a goal, that is how it went and I am happy. There are still so many games to go, it is definitely a very important victory” his words to Sky Sport at the end of the big match with Juventus. His goal, the one of the momentary 2-1, he will remember forever, waiting to be decisive again in some other challenge.
Outstanding Pio Esposito, Lautaro Martinez has not been a success. The Argentine continues to struggle to score when, in front, he has Juventus. In 22 previous matches, he has found the way to goal on only four occasions. His last goal against the Bianconeri was almost two and a half years ago: 26/11/2023, his was the goal that was then worth the 1-1 final. In Serie A, only twice (out of 16 matches) has he chastised the Old Lady. In short, when he takes the field against the Bianconeri, Inter’s captain is not as resolute as against other rivals.
There is one important statistic, however: Lautaro Martinez has scored 14 goals. The three Bianconeri strikers, Openda, David and Vlahovic (the latter still in the box due to injury), come in at nine. The Argentine has scored far more goals than all of Spalletti’s strikers combined.
Chivu’s strength is that he has four strikers at his disposal who can score goals. If Lautaro Martinez jams, there’s always someone ready to step up. On several occasions, it has been Pio Esposito himself, such as in the Derby d’Italia against Juventus.
