Francesco LuciveroJannik Sinner, what bad luck! Carlos Alcaraz is laughing it off this time

Jannik Sinner is ready to get back in the game at the Doha ATP 500, scheduled Feb. 16-21 on Qatar’s outdoor concrete courts.
The blue tennis player, current number two in the world ranking and second seed of the tournament, has been placed in the lower part of the scoreboard.
In the first round he will face the Czech Tomas Machac, world number 31, already defeated in two previous confrontations, but tough rival.

The path does not loom easy.
In case of a win in the opener, Sinner could find Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in the round of 16.
At the quarters the obstacle could be another Czech, Jakub Mensik, sixth seed and number 16 in the ATP rankings.
In the semifinals, possible crossover with Alexander Bublik, third seeded favorite and current world number 10.
In the finals, the most expected scenario would be a new confrontation with Carlos Alcaraz, first seed.
The Spaniard will begin his journey against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, a rival largely within his reach.
No rematch, at least for now, against Novak Djokovic.

The Serbian champion has indeed decided not to participate in the “Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2026”.

Singles also concluded, with Alex de Minaur finally winning after two consecutive finals lost in Rotterdam, first to Jannik Sinner in 2024 and then, the following year, to Carlos Alcaraz. Number one in the seeding this year, De Minaur took the best advantage of the absence of the two phenomena of world tennis, advancing with fair ease to the final where he met and beat with a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Back to Simone Boleli and Andrea Vavassori, the two are part of the very small circle of Italian winners in Rotterdam and are the only ones to have succeeded in the doubles tournament and twice. In the other cases it was in fact singles tournament victories, with Omar Camporese winning over Ivan Lendl in 1991 and Jannik Sinner winning over De Minaur in 2024.
