Bayern Munich is fighting back against players’ agents. In recent years, the German champions have had to conduct grueling negotiations for contract extensions for some of their stars, and have had to deal with exorbitant demands from the players’ representatives, which have often blocked or slowed down negotiations. The’latest case is the Dayot Upamecano affair, which kept Bayern Munich stuck for months.

The French defender’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, demanded and was granted a signing bonus of 20 million euros for his client.

This is the straw that broke the camel&#8217s back for Uli Hoeneß, who announced in an interview with Sport Bild that he and the Bayern management would take action.

Criticism arrives for the handling of the latest contract renewal negotiations
Upamecano’s contract extension talks went too long, according to Dietmar Hamann

"I am somewhat surprised by Bayern’s negotiating tactics", he told Sky

There are several players who have to renew their contracts with Bayern in the coming months

“Herbert Hainer, Max Eberl, Jan Dreesen, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I agree: we will put the whole issue of agents at the center of the discussion” said Bayern’s honorary president. “We will no longer tolerate agents deciding for themselves how things go”.

Hoeneß points the finger at the unacceptable demands of some agents: “Their contribution is increasingly out of proportion to the fees they demand and often eventually get. They earn far too much for what they do. Some of them do not even go beyond three lunches with us”.

.

The honorary president warned the prosecutors: from now on Bayern Munich will be inflexible. “We will increasingly say ‘no’ and we will not participate in this madness. We may even say to the player: ‘If your agent continues to negotiate in such an outrageous way, we will no longer discuss your future with us’. They have forced us to come to this point”.

Bayern Munich players have among the highest salaries in’Europe, and the German club&#8217s goal is to put a cap on the players&#8220s continued demands: “The word ‘no’ will be heard more often. We could also put one or two agents on a list and tell them that we will no longer sign players they represent. That would be the next step”.
