When Jannik Sinner plays in Doha: background with Popyrin

Jannik Sinner ready to return to the court. The Blue, after overcoming Czech Tomas Machac in his debut, will face Australia&#8217s Alexei Popyrin in the round of 16 of the Doha ATP 500. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 18, at a time yet to be determined.

Sinner, who won outright in two sets against Machac, has faced the Australian twice in the past: in 2021 at the Madrid Masters 1000 he lost in two sets, while in the last precedent at the US Open 2025 he won outright 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. Popyrin is currently ranked No. 53 in the ATP rankings.

“I felt good on the court,” he said in the post-match interview against the Czech. “I also feel good physically, although each match will become more and more difficult with the opponents. I was lucky to train a few days here, although it had never been as windy as today, fortunately I adapted well”.

World number one Carlos Alcaraz is also participating in the tournament: the two rivals will only be able to face each other in the final.
