Lindsey Vonn, new surgery: "More than 6 hours and lots of screws…"

Lindsey Vonn has undergone yet another surgery after her dramatic fall in the downhill at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The U.S. champion updated on her condition via a post on her Instagram profile in which she also showed quite disturbing images of her left leg filled with spikes.

“I made it through the’surgery … it took just over 6 hours to complete – wrote Vonn . As you can see, a lot of plates and screws had to be used to get everything back in place, but Dr. Hackett did an amazing job. Thanks also to Dr. Viola for his assistance during the surgery!!”

“Given the extent of the trauma, I had some difficulty in the post-surgery and have not yet been able to be discharged from the hospital…but we are almost there. One step at a time. I will soon explain the injury and what it all entails” concluded the American skier.

A very complicated time for Vonn, who also lost her beloved dog in recent days, as announced on Instagram: “Leo passed away and joined Lucy and Bear up there in heaven. These have been incredibly hard days, probably the hardest days of my life. I cannot accept that Leo is gone”.

“As I lay in my hospital bed the day after the accident we said goodbye to my big boy. I can&#8217t believe it. It will take a while to emotionally process things but I know he will always be with me. I know he is up there with Lucy, Bear, my mom and grandparents and so many people I have lost in the last few years. You will forever be my first love, no one will ever be like you. I will always love you big boy” concluded Vonn.
