Federico Tomasoni moved the world by dedicating his silver medal at the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics to Matilde Lorenzi. The 28-year-old from Bergamo competed in the men’s ski cross final in Livigno wearing a special helmet in tribute to his former girlfriend, who tragically passed away on Oct. 28, 2024 after a terrible accident while training on the Val Senales glacier in South Tyrol. Relations with the late girlfriend’s family remain very solid, as her father, Adolfo, has since confirmed.

“We still haven&#8220t stopped crying seeing Federico’s race, it&#8217s too big an emotion and it&#8217s also complicated to describe – admitted Matilde Lorenzi&#8217s father speaking to the ‘Corriere della Sera’ -It&#8217s like he was part of our family. He, but also his parents, are wonderful people. She was the first girlfriend he introduced to the house. We write each other regularly”. And the same happened just on the occasion of the finals of the men’s ski cross in Milan Cortina 2026.

“He wrote me: ‘Tomorrow I will ski for Matilde’. And he did an incredible feat, he wanted that medal at all costs” added Adolfo Lorenzi. Who also spoke about the sun on Federico Tomasoni&#8217s helmet, a dedication to his lost love: “They skied in two. Hundreds of people wrote to us, and it is very important to us. He had shown us a preview of that helmet. Federico is a golden boy. Like Simone Deromedis he knows the value of sacrifice and discipline. We felt that our Mati was special, so he could do nothing but find a special boy”.

The same Federico Tomasoni had provided some hot details about his initiative. “My first vacation with Matilde had been right here in Livigno – had recalled the’Azzurro, speaking to the microphones of ‘Olympics’, at the end of the race in which he won his first Olympic medal -. Today I was competing with bib number 17, which was his number. It was very exciting”.

Also Lucrezia, sister of Matilde Lorenzi, had not wanted to hold back her excitement after the medal won by Federico Tomasoni. “This piece of the medal is thanks to her and all the energy and strength she sent to Faith today. She was the one who gave that extra finger to allow him to take the silver. It makes me feel serene because I know that in this medal there&#8217s also a little piece of her” she had told TG3.
