In recent weeks, criticism of Jutta Leerdam has been rife: she has often been the subject of comments questioning her focus on her image and private life over her sporting achievements (despite a gold medal in the 1,000 meters and a silver medal in the 500 meters).

The strong Dutch skater decided to respond to the criticism and did so by posting a photo on Instagram of her with makeup smudged from tears of joy after winning the gold medal: “For me, this photo perfectly encapsulates everything my Olympics meant. This moment shows that you don&#8217t have to give up on yourself to achieve something great. Your appearance does not define who you are, either as a person or as an athlete. If you work hard and stay determined, results will come”.

“It is almost ironic: throughout my career I have been judged by my eyeliner and makeup. Yet it is precisely these things that have given me confidence, making me feel feminine and strong. The pressure, the judgments on so many different aspects, the years of sacrifice and hard work…all came together in that instant. I never felt the need to prove anything to others”.

“I did it for myself, for the little girl I was, for my family and for all women who do not want to be labeled, but simply to live and express who they are. A reminder: you can be sweet and strong, disciplined and feminine at the same time. Never let anyone turn off your light” wrote Jutta Leerdam on her highly followed Instagram profile.

A few days ago she posted a video on her social channels that sparked indiscretions. The Dutchman wrote: “I made the first video with the thought of showing my future children someday, little did I know that I would shoot an even better one only two weeks later.” Her fans went into a frenzy and went wild in the comments section, “Oh my god but does that mean she is planning a family?” wrote Kate. Mikaela is also very curious: “In my opinion it is obvious that she wants to have children! I’m very happy for her and her boyfriend Jack Paul, can’t wait.”
