For several weeks now, English media have been claiming that there is a real possibility that Pep Guardiola will leave Manchester City at the end of the season. According to BBC reports, the Catalan coach believes his winning cycle at the Citizens is over and the club&#8217s management is already working to identify the heir. Among the various hypotheses has emerged that of Vincent Kompany.

Manchester City top management highly appreciate the work being done by the Belgian coach at Bayern Munich and have talked about it in several meetings but, according to the latest rumors, it seems they have decided not to bet on him for next season. The leading candidate to take Pep Guardiola’s place is Enzo Maresca, who left the Chelsea bench in early January after having some frictions with some members of the club.

Maresca and Guardiola have worked together for several years, and Manchester City management is convinced that the Italian is the best option for the club&#8217s future. A few weeks ago Guardiola during a press conference spoke this way about his future: “I am here now. What will happen though, who knows? Even if I had 10 years on my contract or 6 months, in soccer everything can change overnight. I still have several months left on my contract. I am excited about the growth of the team”.

There had also been talk of Xabi Alonso as a possible new Manchester City coach but the Spaniard is waiting for a call from Liverpool and recently turned down Olympique Marseille for the same reason. There’s a special bond that binds Xabi Alonso and the Reds and, should the club&#8217s management come forward, the Spanish coach would accept immediately: with the Liverpool shirt he played 5 years collecting great victories and indelible memories. Among these certainly stands out the Champions League won in 2005 at the end of an epic match that will forever remain in history: down 3-0 against AC Milan, Xabi Alonso’s team came back 3-3 and later won on penalties.
