Former Manchester City man attacks Pep Guardiola’s locker room

During his very long career, Nolito has also had the opportunity to play for Manchester City: the English bought him in 2016 from Celta Vigo for 18 million euros but the Spanish footballer failed to settle in England and after just a year returned to La Liga to wear the Sevilla jersey. During the latest episode of the podcast ‘El after de Post United‘, Nolito attacked the City locker room.
“It was a team full of stars but there’was too much ego. There’were players with huge egos. We would all shower and then everyone would leave right away, I can say it was not a very united locker room. However I was always with the Spaniards, David Silva, Jesus Navas and the others, we shared a lot in the locker room. I saw many things but I will keep them to myself. Each person can have their own idea and opinion but the’ego I think is a common problem in society today”.
Nolito then analyzed specifically what went wrong at the football level during the English experience: “As soon as I arrived I was playing enough and integrating well, then in teams like Manchester City the competition is so much and my minutes dropped dramatically. It also affected my adaptation path because if you don’t play, it is normal that you struggle to gain confidence. In the Premier League there’s more pace, they let you play more and they boo very little, personally I prefer La Liga”.
Nolito’s career is closely linked to Spain: he started at Valencia U19, then played for Écija Balompié and Barcelona Atlètic before moving to Portugal to wear the Benfica jersey. He returned to Spain after only six months and moved on to Granada and Celta de Vigo before being bought by Manchester City. From 2017 to his retirement in 2023 he played with Sevilla, Celta Vigo and Ibiza. Nolito also boasts 16 appearances and six goals with the Spanish senior national team.
