Italbasket women, the World Cup dream is near: Andrea Capobianco extols one aspect in particular

After beating Puerto Rico 78-41 and New Zealand 74-51, the women’s national team has built a solid base ahead of the three decisive challenges in Group B of qualification for the 2027 World Cup against the United States, Spain and Senegal. The Americans are already qualified by right as continental champions: in the six-team group being played in San Juan, Italy will therefore only need to finish among the best three (excluding the USA itself) to secure one of the sixteen spots available for the final stage in Germany.

Andrea Capobianco, technical commissioner of the women’Italbasket, is especially pleased with the blue girls&#8217s defensive approach: “Even though we didn&#8217t shoot with great percentages, we showed that you can win important games like this one by making a difference with an extraordinary defense, the one that in the third and fourth periods allowed us to stretch again on New Zealand. We took the shots with our best scorers and with space in front, I have nothing to complain about with respect to the choices”.

The 2027 World Cup qualifying schedule still has three games left for the Blue Women: on Saturday 14 there is the impossible mission against the United States, twenty-four hours later the one at Spain, and on Tuesday 17 the last one against Senegal, a team that in the first two games was overwhelmed by the very Americans and the Spanish, with an overall -97 on the points difference.
