Legend Ashley Cole is Cesena’s new coach: official

Cesena is starting again with Ashley Cole: after Mignani&#8217s exoneration, the Romagna club, which has won only two matches so far in 2026, has decided to entrust the post of head coach to the former England national team player, who has signed a three-month contract until next June. Cole is tasked with qualifying for the cadet playoffs to aim for promotion to Serie A. Cole is in his first experience as head coach.

“Cesena FC announces that it has appointed Ashley Cole as coach of the first team. The new coach of the Juventus club has signed a contract until June 30, 2026, with an option to renew upon the occurrence of certain conditions”.

“Born in London in 1980, Cole is one of the most iconic figures in the history of soccer across the Channel and one of the most successful English players ever. In his 15 seasons between Arsenal and Chelsea he lifted 14 domestic trophies, winning the Premier League three times and the FA Cup seven times, setting a record for the latter competition that is still unbeaten. In the European arena, however, he has won both major continental trophies, winning both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League, both with a Chelsea shirt”.

“Thanks to 107 games played in the ranks of the England senior national team, moreover, Cole is the seventh most featured player ever in the Three Lions’ jersey, with which he participated in three World Cups and two European Championships between 2002 and 2012”.

“After international experiences with AS Roma and Los Angeles Galaxy, Cole retired from playing soccer in 2019 and decided to immediately take the coaching route, taking his first steps within Chelsea”s youth sector.

“In 2021 he joined the technical staff of the England Under-21 national team, while between 2022 and 2023 he had important experiences as assistant coach to both Frank Lampard at Everton and Chelsea and Wayne Rooney at Birmingham City. Later Cole returned to the ranks of the Football Association, first as assistant coach Lee Carsley, leading the Under-21 national team, and then, between August and November 2024, also as assistant coach of the England senior national team”.
