Serie A 2025-2026: Sassuolo-Bologna, the likely lineups

High-tension Emilia derby between Sassuolo and Bologna. The two teams are separated by just one point in the standings (Rossoblù eighth with 39 points, neroverdi at 38) and are aiming to move closer to seventh place occupied by Atalanta, which rose to 47 after a draw on the Inter Milan pitch. A placement that could be worth access to the next Conference League.
Grosso’s team wants to react after the defeat against Lazio. Similar situation for Bologna, fresh from their 1-1 home draw against Verona and also with their heads in the Europa League round of 16 return match against Roma (scheduled for Thursday at the Stadio Olimpico after the 1-1 first leg). In the 20 previous matches between the two sides, the balance is rather balanced: 8 wins for Bologna, 6 for Sassuolo and 6 draws. The first leg match (Day 17) ended 1-1 with goals by Fabbian and Muharemovic.
Grosso rejoins Pinamonti after his disqualification and should deploy him in the center of the trident with Berardi and Laurienté. Matic remains in doubt but appears inclined to grit his teeth. In defense, Walukiewicz returns on the right flank, while on the left Garcia is favored over Doig.
Italian instead could opt for a large turnover ahead of the European challenge against Roma. In attack, there is room for Orsolini, Dallinga and Cambiaghi, with Bernardeschi, Castro and Rowe ready to be rested. Miranda, disqualified in the Europa League, is expected to start on the left lane, while there could be a chance for Ravaglia in goal.
Probable lineups:
Sassuolo (4-3-3): Muric, Walukiewicz, Idzes, Muharemovic, Garcia, Thorstvedt, Matic, Koné, Berardi, Pinamonti, Laurienté. Coach: Grosso.
Bologna (4-3-3): Ravaglia, Zortea, Vitik, Heggem, Miranda, Freuler, Moro, Sohm, Orsolini, Dallinga, Cambiaghi. Coach: Italiano.
