Jannik Sinner: the'impressive statistic that makes opponents tremble

Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters 1000 without playing his best tennis, as the Italian tennis player himself admitted in a press conference after the match against Alex Michelsen. Once again, the South Tyrolean champion was able to rely on his now proverbial ability to raise the level when the points are hot, and on his ability to handle tie-breaks.
The tie-break figure is becoming impressive: between Indian Wells and Miami the Azzurro has played five so far, winning them all. “To raise the level, I have to be good at figuring out what works best in the decisive moments,” explained the Azure.
In general, since the beginning of 2025 Sinner has faced 25 tie-breaks in total, winning 22 and losing only three, the last against Mensik in Qatar, the other two in the sensational Roland Garros final against Carlos Alcaraz. A mind-blowing record that the Italian commented thus, “I try first of all to serve very well in the important moments and to learn from the previous games, trying to understand what works best in the points that matter. I’m also someone who likes to play tie-breaks or games on 4 evens or 5 evens, so I try to raise the level in the most important parts and moments, and that certainly helped me today.”
The Azzurro also after his success against Michelsen increased to 28 consecutive sets won at the 1000 level, a record he blew away from Novak Djokovic and continues to increase. “Some statistics are irrelevant, winning sets means nothing, what matters is winning the match,” downplayed Jannik, who on Thursday against Tiafoe will go after yet another semifinal in a 1000.
