Francis Tiafoe suffered a tough lesson from Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters 1000 tournament.

The Italian won with a double 6-2 without argument, confirming his supremacy on the concrete of the Florida event. The American tennis player in front of his own audience won only four games and seemed completely helpless in front of the strokes of the South Tyrolean champion.

“He is one of the best hitters this sport has ever seen – are his words -. I would have liked the match to have gone a little differently, I would have liked to get to 3-3 or 4-4 and put some pressure on the opponent, but he is capable of repeating the same thing over and over again,” the U.S. said a little discouraged at the press conference after the match.

“He hits the ball with great precision, with great depth, and he also moves incredibly well. He also does it repeatedly. He also serves with a high percentage of accuracy most of the time, which makes the court look very small because of his movements,” Tiafoe noted.

“That makes you feel like he’s constantly putting pressure on you, making you feel like you need to take more risks,” the star athlete said. Jannik Sinner in the semifinals will face an old acquaintance of his, Alexander Zverev, who has been defeated repeatedly in the past.

The Blue has won his last six matches against the German tennis player, who in his last three matches has never managed to snatch a single set from him. The two faced each other only two weeks ago in the Indian Wells semifinals: on that occasion the Italian tennis player won in two sets 6-2, 6-4. Zverev’s last victory was at the U.S. Open in 2023. Sinner has now reached 30 consecutive sets won in Masters 1000s; it is an all-time record for the Italian who is in the hunt for the first Sunshine Double (Indian Wells-Miami victory) of his career.
