The “Sunshine Double” is complete. After Indian Wells, success also comes in Miami for Aryna Sabalenka, who becomes the fifth player in history to win both American WTA 1000s, following in the footsteps of Steffi Graf, Iga Swiatek, Victoria Azarenka and Kim Clijsters.

The world number one defended her title at the Miami Open overcoming in the final Coco Gauff by the score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in 2 hours and 11 minutes. It was a well-deserved victory for Sabalenka, who was dominant in the first set closed in just over half an hour. In the second partial, however, the Belarusian did not take advantage of several opportunities, allowing Gauff to come back thanks to the break in the tenth game.

In the decisive moment, Sabalenka reacted with authority: in the third set she raised the level again, taking advantage of the American’s difficulties on serve (7 double faults and only 44% of points won with the second).

For Sabalenka this is the third title in 2026, after Brisbane and Indian Wells, to which is also added the final at the Australian Open lost to Elena Rybakina. The Belarusian thus strengthens her WTA ranking lead to 24 career titles, including 11 in the WTA 1000.

In spite of the defeat, Gauff’s tournament remains positive: it was the first final of the season for her and also the first lost on concrete in her career.
