Jannik Sinner No. 1 in Monte Carlo if…: all the combinations

Thanks to the Miami Open victory, won after beating Jiří Lehečka in the final with a score of 6-4 6-4, Jannik Sinner has reduced his disadvantage from Carlos Alcaraz in the Atp ranking to 1,190 points and in Monte Carlo (assuming the Azure participates) he could regain the top spot.
If he were to win the title in Monte Carlo, regardless of Carlos Alcaraz’s path, Jannik Sinner would return to the top of the Atp ranking. However, this is not the only possible scenario: the Azure could regain the top spot even without winning the tournament by reaching the final if Alcaraz stops at most in the semifinals
Alternatively, Sinner would only need to reach the semifinals if the Spaniard does not go beyond the quarters. More complicated, however, is the last hypothesis: Sinner eliminated in the quarters and Alcaraz out already in the second round, that is, in the opener.
After the Miami Open final loss to Jannik Sinner, Jiří Lehečka analyzed the match this way, “Experience and confidence are key, I think these two factors played a significant role in the final. Sinner showed that at every crucial moment in the first set, especially in that game on 0-40 where I had an opportunity to get back into the match. He served incredibly well at that moment, putting up five first serves.”
The Czech tennis player believes he has grown from his previous confrontation with Sinner, at Roland Garros in 2025: “It was a slightly different story here, although the conditions were difficult because of the rain, which didn’t help me much, but so what. I played a better match, and I performed significantly better than in Paris.”
