Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, not just ranking: close overtaking on earnings as well

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are seeing their challenge flare up again in these early months of 2026. The two friends and rivals, however, are not only vying for the No. 1 position in the ATP rankings, occupied by both over the past 12 months. In fact, the next few weeks could also experience a shakeup with regard to their earnings, particularly in regard to the prizes obtained through participation and victories at the many tournaments in which the two contemporary tennis aces have taken part during their careers.

In this respect, Sinner has just broken through a major wall. Just after conquering the “Sunshine Double,” i.e., the Indian Wells and Miami Masters 1000s, the South Tyrolean surpassed $60 million in prizes awarded to him by the ATP circuit. Well: at present Alcaraz continues to precede him, but not by much. In fact, the overtaking could materialize in Monte Carlo, should the Italian win the tournament and should the Spaniard be eliminated before the final stages.

Thanks to the Miami Open victory, moreover, Sinner has reduced his disadvantage from Alcaraz in the ATP ranking to 1,190 points and in Monte Carlo he could regain the first place. Should he win the title in the Principality, regardless of the path of his emblazoned colleague, the South Tyrolean would return to the top of the ATP ranking. However, this is not the only possible scenario: the Azure could regain the top spot even without winning the tournament by reaching the final, if Alcaraz stops at most in the semifinals.

The Murcia tennis player himself has wanted to congratulate his rival on his latest triumph, posting a message to him on Instagram: “Congratulations Jannik and team for winning the Sunshine Double,” wrote Alcaraz, who posted a photo of Sinner and his coaches Vagnozzi and Cahill smiling in the locker room after the Miami triumph.

Alcaraz had already congratulated Sinner in person after the Indian Wells victory. The two could cross paths again in a few days in the Monte Carlo tournament, although the Blue has not yet confirmed his participation. With the start of the clay court season, Sinner is aiming for his first victory in a major tournament on this surface, and at the same time he hopes to narrow his gap from Alcaraz.
