Jannik Sinner convinced a great former: "It’s not normal"

Few more days and Jannik Sinner is ready to return to the court at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, but the echo of his extraordinary Sunshine Double, with the Indian Wells and Miami Open tournaments dominated without conceding a single set, is still alive. Also extolling the qualities of the Italian champion was Justine Henin, who at the microphones of Eurosport France commented on his performance this way.
“Jannik Sinner was truly exceptional, he hit all the goals he had set for himself in these two tournaments succeeding with great style and his serve is now a formidable weapon. Winning two Masters 1000s without losing a set may seem almost normal, but in fact it says so much, not only about his dominance, but also about his ability to handle key moments.”
Henin then pointed out how Sinner manages to raise the level even further when he perceives even the slightest threat finally dwelling on the performance of Jiri Lehecka, a finalist in Miami: “It was his first final in a 1000 and probably, at the end of the match, he wondered what more he could have done. He had the courage to try, he attacked and did not waste his chance, but simply his opponent was too strong,” concluded the former Belgian champion.
The rankings still don’t reward him, but according to many, Jannik Sinner is already the virtual number one in the ATP rankings: his double win in the U.S. in Indian Wells and Miami convinced many insiders, including former world number one in doubles Rennae Stubbs, who clearly came out on her podcast in favor of the Blue in his eternal struggle with Carlos Alcaraz.
“Now Sinner is the number one favorite to win at Roland Garros,” Stubbs explained. “I noticed a few things in his game, especially in Miami, where I felt he was shaping his forehand more. The depth of his groundstrokes is something that is not talked about enough.”
