L'Assoutenti creates public consultation after Zenica debacle

The defeat of the Italian national soccer team leads to a deep reflection not only on the technical level, but especially on the governance of soccer in our country. This is affirmed by Assoutenti, which calls into question the responsibilities of the leadership of the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio.
After the third exclusion in a row from the World Cup, it seems inevitable to question how the federal managers should be evaluated, since the repeated sporting failure cannot be ignored nor can it be reduced to a simple negative cycle – explains Assoutenti – For this reason, we have decided to directly involve citizens-consumers, launching on our website a public consultation with a clear and direct question: “Can the leadership of the current Federal Council and the President of the FIGC still play their role?”
The survey will also include a clear proposal on the future of Italian soccer: reduce millionaire salaries in professional soccer and allocate more resources to investments in soccer schools and oratories, to foster the growth of young talent and rebuild a solid base for a truly competitive national team. The initiative aims to build a real consumer consultation, so that fans and citizens can express their assessment on a management that, in recent years, has led the National Team to touch one of the lowest points in its history.
Football – Assoutenti continues – is not only a sport, but also a collective good, a cultural heritage and identity of the country. This is why we believe it is fundamental to give a voice to citizens, who are both fans and consumers of a system that must guarantee transparency, merit and results.
Assoutenti’s National President, Gabriele Melluso, adds, “We no longer see children in the streets playing football, in the squares or outside the stadiums. It is a change that strikes deep into the identity of our country. We grew up with a punctured ball, with impromptu games and even with some broken glass: passion, talent and team spirit were born from there. Today all this is disappearing, and with it the future of our soccer. And if we really care about our youth, let’s start by eliminating gambling advertising at sporting events.”
The results of the consultation will be made public in the coming weeks and transmitted to the relevant institutions, with the aim of opening a serious and responsible debate on the future of Italian soccer.
