Matt Morgan heading for Virtus Bologna farewell, duel between two bigs

Matt Morgan could leave Virtus Bologna at the end of the season: the black-and-white guard, in fact, is expiring his contract and his future remains to be defined, also in light of the attention he has received on the international market. According to reports from BasketNews, several EuroLeague clubs have already set their sights on him for next year. In particular, Zalgiris Kaunas and Paris Basketball would be among the most interested teams ready to make a concrete move during the summer window to try to sign him.
His departure would represent a major loss for Virtus, which this season has found in Morgan one of the most reliable elements of its external department, thanks to his ability to create points and give rhythm to the offense. On a statistical level, he is traveling at an average of 13 points per game in EuroLeague, numbers to which he also adds 2.2 assists and 1.5 rebounds, confirming himself as a solid and continuous player in performance. Performances that have not gone unnoticed and have contributed to increasing his value on the European market.
Coach Peppe Poeta on Thursday night spoke warmly after the defeat in Paris, which further distanced Olimpia Milano from the Euroleague play-in, which practically no one believes in anymore.
“We played a very negative first half, and I take all the responsibility for that. In the second half the team reacted well, but it was not enough. We managed to come back up to -1 thanks to a good reaction, but in the decisive moments we missed important shots, while they were more concrete. However, what happened in the first 20 minutes remains unacceptable. We need to find more continuity throughout the game (for all 40 minutes) if we want to compete at the Euroleague level. Today we alternated 20 positive minutes with 20 very negative ones, and this is not enough.”
On the change in the second half: “The game plan remained the same. The attitude completely changed after halftime, and that’s what allowed us to come back up to -1. There were no tactical changes: we continued to play the same way, but with a different attitude.”
