BJK Cup, Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani dragging: Italy is confirmed among the best in the world

The Italian women’s tennis team secured late Saturday morning a pass for the Final Eight of the Billie Jean King Cup 2026. On the clay court of the ASD Colle degli Dei in Vellettri, Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in fact gave Italy the decisive point to beat Japan, defeating in two sets (6-2, 7-5) the Japanese pair formed by Shuko Aoyama and Eri Hozumi.
Number 1 seed in the qualifying tournament and winner of the last two editions of the Billie Jean King Cup, the women’s counterpart of the Davis Cup, Italy had secured the first two points on Friday, thanks to Elisabetta Cocciaretto’s 7-5, 6-2 win over Moyuka Uchijima and Jasmine Paolini’s 6-3, 6-1 win over Himeno Sakatsume.

The victory in the doubles of the reigning Olympic champions thus avoided a further lengthening of the series against the Japanese, who had gained access to the qualifiers thanks to their participation in last year’s Finals (on that occasion they were defeated in the quarterfinals against Great Britain).
The lineup led by Tathiana Garbin thus continues to hold high the Tricolor in world tennis: the 2026 Finals appointment is scheduled for the second half of September in Shenzhen, China, on the same concrete courts that saw the Azzurre triumph last year.
