Valtur Brindisi is defeated at PalaPentassuglia for the second time this season: before Bologna, only Forlì in October managed to exult at the final siren in Puglia. Fortitudo completes the blitz of the day, heavy 71-81 success at the end of a match led from the opening bars (Valtur’s only lead on 2-0) thanks to a first half of great ballistic evidence from 49 points scored and resisting the Brindisi’s onslaught that came up to -2.

The final rewards the performance of coach Caja’s men who mortgage one of the first three positions in the standings, leaving Brindisi to battle for the remaining positions in the playoffs. MVP of the match Alvise Sarto author of 24 points with 6/9 from three-point range, a real thorn in the side in the first two quarters especially for Brindisi’s guards.

“Fortitudo was able to immediately address the game in an overbearing way, managing to have a considerable gap – was the comment at the end of the game of coach Piero Bucchi in the press room -. Important reaction of the team up to -2, but we were not able to complete it. That’s a shame.”

“The difficult start is honestly more on their merits, who made baskets of considerable difficulty with Sarto as the protagonist,” added Bucchi. “The guys showed a desire to get back into the game, but Bologna was good at throwing us back. The numbers speak for themselves, our two Americans struggled.”

The 71-81 at PalaPentassuglia propels Fortitudo Bologna to 48 points, the same as Scafati and Pesaro at the top of the standings. Valtur Brindisi, on its second straight loss and joined by Verona and Cividale, remains at 44. Coach Bucchi’s team will return to the court on Sunday, April 19, for the penultimate round of the regular season, away on Pistoia’s court.
