Holger Rune warns Jannik Sinner: "It will be chaos"

Holger Rune, waiting to return to the circuit after his Achilles tendon injury, confessed to Sky Sports microphones his desire to return to competing at the highest level. The Danish tennis player is expected to return to the court in May, a week before the start of Roland Garros.

“I don’t want to simply return to play: I want to be dominant. I want to understand my game better, make better decisions on court and come back stronger and more complete than before.” Rune feels changed after the injury: “You realize how quickly everything can change. You learn to enjoy every single moment because you are really doing what you love. I feel mentally much stronger and more solid than in the past.”

Rune wants to bring “chaos” to the circuit after the last two years of duopoly by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz: “They are the benchmarks. However, it would be nice to see a new face emerge, maybe me, and bring some chaos to the circuit.”

“Right now Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are the two most dominant players on the circuit-they are the level to chase. Novak Djokovic impressed me so much at the Australian Open: getting to the final at that age, beating Sinner and staying competitive against Alcaraz was an incredible feat. Today it is probably the most difficult challenge in tennis.”

The connection with the circuit, despite his long absence, Rune has never broken it. Last February, he was in the stands in Doha to watch the ATP 500 tournament live, where Sinner and Alcaraz were among the stars. It was a gesture that did not go unnoticed by the South Tyrolean, who dedicated a video message to him after his victory in the round of 16 against Alexander Popyrin: “Holger, it’s nice to see you watching some live tennis in the stands. I really hope you get better soon. All of us players on the circuit miss you. I hope to see you back on the tour soon, I wish you well.”
