Sassari ko in Varese, Veljko Mrsic won’t stand for it: "Foul on Iroegbu made up"

The final sprint reserves another bitter verdict for Dinamo Sassari, overcome 91-90 at Italyum Arena by Openjobmetis Varese in the 26th round of Serie A Unipol. A brave but unfortunate performance for the Sardinians, who after a first half characterized by ups and downs (even -14) managed to turn the inertia on their side by playing a third period bordering on perfection (25-12). In the decisive phase, the white-blue continued to fight with the knife between their teeth, long stroking the possibility of winning. The last gasp, however, came from Iroegbu, who benefited from a foul called on Ceron with one second to go. An episode on which Veljko Mrsic also dwelt at the end of the game.
“Today, in the decisive action, an invented foul was called on Iroegbu – Coach Mrsic complained at the end of the game. I believe that, in these circumstances, we should let the players determine the outcome of the game. At the same time, we must also look at our mistakes: we cannot afford to lose a ball on a full-court pass at such a delicate moment. It’s not easy, but we have to keep working even when these things happen.”
“Episodes happened in the final that affected us, as it happened in the last competitions,” insisted the coach of Dinamo Sassari. After the game with Cantù we had received an apology from the referees’ commissioner for a clear contact that was not sanctioned in our last possession, and there was something similar against Treviso as well.”
From Mrsic, however, came words of praise toward Dinamo Sassari’s opponents of the day: “Congratulations to Varese for the important victory. In the first half we were not at the required level, while in the second half – except for the first two minutes – we started to play with more quality. In the last 18 we saw a balanced game, played point to point.”
And now, after the loss to Varese, Dinamo Sassari’s path becomes even more complicated. “We are fully involved in the salvation struggle and in the last three days, with a difficult schedule against the top three in the standings, we will have to give everything to try to bring home as many results as possible,” was Mrsic’s final analysis.
