Trieste routed Udine’s PalaCarnera winning the regional derby with a score of 70-89. It was a great blow, studied also from a tactical point of view by Francesco Taccetti, who decided to give up Sissoko against Vertemati’s two longs, Mekowulu and Spencer. A choice that the coach of the Julian team vindicated after the game, when he nevertheless wanted to praise the performance of the entire group. And in his words he also wanted to frame the keys to his team’s important success.

“The guys gave a really solid performance – was Taccetti’s analysis -. We went a little bit under only in the first pass of the first quarter, but from there on we were good at keeping our concentration. Clearly very important was also the energy Trieste put on the court. But so did Udine, as you can only try to win games like that by putting all your energy on the court. And we both put that in.”

“However, we were good at staying focused on what we had prepared,” added Taccetti on Trieste’s performance. That was kind of our strength, putting great consistency on the field and everyone’s contribution. I think our victory is well deserved, despite the absence of Malisco, which we obviously did not hope for. But everyone did what the game against Udine demanded. And from that point of view we were all very good.”

Turning to individuals, however, Taccetti focused especially on Josh Bannan and Francesco Candussi. “Both of them knew we needed to attack the area when they played five. They needed to give us that contribution from long, and they did,” the Trieste coach explained.

“I see that from two Bannan made 4 of 6, while Candu made 4 of 5. Those are numbers that show how good they were at doing their job. They manned the area and made the contribution we needed,” Taccetti concluded.
