Dinamo Sassari is waiting for him, Achille Polonara makes a promise

Busy these days in the gym of Unicusano Avellino Basket, which has made available to him so that he can train ahead of an official return that everyone hopes will be as quick as possible after his long illness, Achille Polonara updated fans and insiders on his condition, making a promise to everyone and in particular to Dinamo Sassari, with which he is bound by a contract signed last August.

“How am I? Well – he told the microphones of Rai Tgr Campania – I’m doing routine visits that will allow me to continue to deal with the experimental treatments I’ve been undergoing since this summer.” For now, the timeline for the return has no specific dates: “When you’re off for a year you miss the field, it’s not easy to get going again. However, no one is running after me, I’m taking my time. I’d like to get back on the court soon, maybe after the summer.”

“I’m doing all this for my wife and children, they have always been there for me, especially in the most difficult moments,” Polonara then added before making a promise to his club and to all those who want to see him back on the parquet. “Now I’m struggling to get to the iron, but sooner or later Polon-Air will be back.”

Normal class of 1991, Achille Polonara had stopped once before, in October 2023, to undergo surgery to remove a testicular neoplasm, returning to the court already after two months. He was then diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in June 2025, forcing him to undergo first cycles of chemotherapy and radiation therapy and then a bone marrow transplant.

During his long rehabilitation, in October 2025, a venous thrombosis had put him in a coma for ten days.

Recoversing from this unfortunate event as well, Polonara is working, with great determination, to return to the court and resume the discourse dramatically interrupted by the disease.
