Lamine Yamal injured, World Cup at risk: Barcelona and Spain anxious

Bad news for Lamine Yamal who slumped to the ground during the match against Celta Vigo, stopped by a muscle injury that appeared very serious from the start. A chill fell among the fans when the Blaugrana number ten, after putting his team ahead on a penalty, immediately asked for a change, without even exulting, with an expression that suggested the worst.
The first news coming from the locker room at Camp Nou is far from reassuring: an injury to the hamstring in his left thigh is suspected. If examinations in the coming hours confirm this hypothesis, Yamal’s season could already be over, also seriously jeopardizing his presence at the 2026 World Cup with Spain.
The incident occurred in the 40th minute of the first half, in an evening already complicated by the illness suffered by a fan in the stands (which required the simultaneous intervention of the emergency services). Yamal converted the penalty by beating Radu, but just at the moment of the shot he felt a sudden and intense pain in his thigh. Despite the milestone he had achieved (30 goals in La Liga before the age of 19, surpassing Raul’s record), the talented youngster immediately stopped, calling for a substitution.
In the post-match, Hansi Flick appeared visibly shaken: “We’ll see what the tests will say on Thursday, only then will we have a clear picture.” The German coach did not hide his concern: “We have to accept it, although it is not easy. It’s very unfortunate, because Lamine is crucial for us, as is Joao Cancelo (also stopped by injury). I hope it is nothing too serious, but I am worried.”
