F1, Adrian Newey doesn’t work: everyone wanted him, now risks his job at'Aston Martin

There was a time when Adrian Newey was the engineer most in demand in the paddock. After his farewell to Red Bull, everyone wanted him, including Ferrari. Eventually, he attached himself to Aston Martin. So much was expected of him, instead, to date, he has not convinced anyone, in fact he is taking a big risk.
Adrian Newey is at the center of so much criticism, and not only for the Aston Martin AMR26, which is not working and is the biggest disappointment at the start of the 2026 F1 season. The criticism is also about the way he operates when he is not engaged in designing a car, but in managing the team. As a team principal, he is “out of control.”
“Having worked with Adrian for most of my career, I would never have imagined him as a team principal. He has a great technical mindset, he’s a racing man, and he knows how to solve problems from a technical point of view,” David Coulthard’s words on the Up to Speed podcast.
There is talk of a possible change of strategy within Aston Martin. A new team principal? What seems most likely is the arrival of Jonathan Wheatley, especially after leaving Audi F1. However, the Silverstone team has not yet made any move, so, for the time being, Adrian Newey remains in place.
