The Premier League Sunday closes with the 8 p.m. Italian (7 p.m. local) match between Aston Villa and Tottenham. At Villa Park in Birmingham an important challenge at the two sides of the standings is staged: the home team, fresh from the defeat in the Europa League semifinal first leg against Nottingham Forest, can close the Champions discourse regardless by placing among the best five of the season, while Spurs will try to take advantage of West Ham’s knockout at home to Brentford to get out of the relegation zone.

Aston Villa, compared to the sixth place occupied by Brentford itself, has a seven-point lead with today’s match still to be played: a success would allow them to rise to +10 with nine points still available and, therefore, would allow the Villans to participate in the League Phase of the next Champions regardless of the outcome of this year’s Europa League.

Tottenham, on the other hand, had to wait until the match against derelict Wolverhampton to regain a success that had been missing in the league since last December 28. They have 34 points in the standings, compared to West Ham’s 36: a win tonight would be crucial, for De Zerbi’s men, morally as well as for the standings.

Probable lineups

ASTON VILLA (4-2-3-1): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Maatsen; Tielemans, Bogarde; Bailey, Rogers, Sancho; Watkins. All. Emery.

TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1): Kinsky; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Palhinha; Kolo Muani, Gallagher, Tel; Richarlison. All. De Zerbi.
