Luke Donald, Ryder Cup captain at'Italian Open

Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald will be among the headliners at the DS Automobiles 83rd Italian Open, scheduled at Circolo Golf Torino June 25-28. The former world number one, who led Team Europe to victory in the last two editions of the Ryder Cup, will return to Italy for the first time since his 2023 triumph against Team USA at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, in Guidonia Montecelio (Rome).
Donald, who also starred in Europe’s 2025 success in New York (first continental away win since 2012), has become the second European captain capable of winning both home and away. He is now aiming to make further history by trying to win the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland at Adare Manor, becoming the first captain to lead a team to three consecutive successes.
The 48-year-old Englishman, a seven-time winner on the DP World Tour circuit, will be competing in the Italian Open for the sixth time (the first in 2017). The tournament will also be the penultimate European Swing event and the fourth of five Global Swings in the Race to Dubai 2026. Circolo Golf Torino will again host the event after editions in 1999, 2013 and 2014. The prize money is $3 million, with 3,500 Race to Dubai points up for grabs.
“I’m very excited to be returning to the Italian Open,” said Donald, emphasizing how special Italy holds a place for him after his Team Europe victory in Rome in 2023.
