Inter is ready for the Coppa Italia: downed Lazio at the Olimpico

Inter Milan came out on top with a dry 3-0 win against Lazio in the 6 p.m. match of the 36th day of Serie A. Cristian Chivu’s team routed the Stadio Olimpico with goals from Lautaro Martinez, Sucic and Mkhitaryan, and climbed to 85 points in the standings.

Good feelings ahead of the Coppa Italia final also scheduled against the Biancocelesti next Wednesday at the same stadium. Sarri’s team remains eighth at 51 points.

The Italian champions controlled the match with great authority in the first half, finding the lead immediately at 6′ with Lautaro Martinez, scoring on a turn after Thuram’s feed. The Nerazzurri came close to doubling the lead through the Frenchman himself, while the Capitolini only made themselves dangerous on spot kicks and struggled to scratch the visitors’ defense. In the 40′ came Inter’s double, with a right-footed shot from Sucic on an assist from Lautaro Martinez.

In the second half, the Nerazzurri were in control, Chivu giving space to Frattesi and Bonny, in for Barella and Thuram. In 59′ Romagnoli is sent off for a bad foul against Bonny, paradoxically in 10 Lazio creates the biggest chance with Isaksen, Carlos Augusto saves on the goal line.

To seal the result is Mkhitaryan, who triggered by Bonny gets rid of Marusic and beats Motta for the final 3-0. Inter won and loaded with confidence ahead of the Cup final scheduled for later in the week.
