The San Antonio Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 122-115, decided after two overtimes, thus taking a 1-0 lead in the series that is worth a spot in the NBA Finals. Great performance by Wembanyama, who finished with 41 points and 24 rebounds.

“A great effort from everyone,” Wembanyama’s words reported by ESPN. At 22 years and 134 days, he became the youngest player with at least 40 points and 20 rebounds in a playoff game. The legend Abdul-Jabbar was 22 years and 343 days old when he made a 40/20 game in the 1970 NBA Finals.

In the Thunder household, Williams, back after a six-game absence due to a strained left hamstring, finished with 26 points on the bench while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, on the night he received his second consecutive MVP award, scored 24 points and 12 assists, but with a lousy 7/23 shooting.

For OKC it was its first defeat in the post season. A wake-up call for the reigning NBA Champions? For now we’re only in Game 1 but, after what the Spurs showed, it promises to be a decidedly sizzling series.
