The rags are flying between Inter and Como over the future of Nico Paz, who has just been named the best midfielder in Serie A. The words of Nerazzurri vice-president Javier Zanetti, who has openly courted the compatriot, have sent Cesc Fabregas into a rage. “I like him very much, I am lucky enough to know his father. He is on his way to becoming a great player. Great players are definitely in demand by the big clubs,” the Argentine, a former Inter captain, had said.

Fabregas was hurt and did not mince words in a press conference, sending torpedoes at the Italian champions: “I’m sorry. Zanetti has been a very important person in soccer, he knows the dynamics well, I know Ausilio and Baccin well. I know they are the ones who make the decisions. In the end, Nico is a 50-50 Como player. The only club that can say anything is Real Madrid. I know that Zanetti does not work for Madrid and Como, then you have to show respect.”

The Blancos can take advantage of the right of recompense but much will depend on the new coach, Jose Mourinho: “One thing I know for sure: Nico Paz will not play for Inter Milan. Either he will return to Real Madrid or he will play for Como next year,” Fabregas sentenced, visibly annoyed.

The award for best midfielder in Serie A 2025-2026 therefore went to Nico Paz, in a ceremony that saw Inter racking up the accolades: Federico Dimarco won the title of overall MVP of the season, becoming the first Italian to win the award in its history, while coach Cristian Chivu took the award for best coach and Lautaro Martinez that for best striker.
