Anna Kalinskaya continues to surprise at Roland Garros. The Russian tennis player gained access to the quarterfinals at the end of a real battle against compatriot Anastasia Potapova, imposing herself with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(7) after more than two hours of play on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

An intense challenge full of twists and turns, characterized by continuous changes of inertia and great tension in the decisive moments. Kalinskaya was off to a better start, winning the first set 6-4 thanks to greater solidity in the exchanges and more lucid management of the important points. Potapova, however, reacted strongly in the second set, raising the level of her tennis and re-establishing parity with a clear 6-2.

In the third and decisive set the two Russians played a very balanced match, with numerous breaks and counterbreaks that kept the audience in suspense until the last point. What made the difference was Kalinskaya’s coolness in the final tie-break, where she was able to nullify the pressure and close out the match, winning one of the most important results of her season.

For Kalinskaya this is a prestigious achievement in a Slam that is giving several surprises. The Russian confirms her excellent form and continues her path in a particularly open women’s draw. On the other hand, Potapova’s run ends, protagonist in the previous rounds of the elimination of defending champion Coco Gauff, one of the most resounding results of this edition of the Paris tournament.

At the quarterfinals, Kalinskaya will face the winner of the challenge between Maja Chwalinska and Diane Parry, with the goal of continuing to dream and push herself even further on the Paris clay.
