Federico Chiesa: rumors of resounding return to Italy at unexpected club

Liverpool is preparing for a season of great change. After the two-year period under Arne Slot, the English club seems intent on opening a new cycle, a revolution that could lead to the departure of several elements of the squad. Among the outgoing players there is also Federico Chiesa, a profile that already in the past market sessions had appeared far from Anfield and that now could concretely make a return to Italy.

On the national team’s outfielder there would be a strong interest of Como. The Larian club is looking for thick reinforcements for the next championship, with a specific strategic goal: to conspicuously increase the number of Italians within the team group, also in order to move best within the strict regulatory constraints on the rosters.

In fact, the criteria for entering tournaments impose strict stakes on the composition of the 25 players in the main squad. At least eight places must be reserved for locally trained players (divided between club and federation nurseries), effectively reducing the number of unrestricted foreign players to a maximum of 17. In order not to risk having to shorten the list, the search for quality Italian elements becomes a top priority.

This is why the profile of Chiesa, who has never closed the door on a return to Serie A, would be perfect for the Larian formation. His name joins a list of Italian targets already approached by Como in recent weeks, which includes the profiles of Andrea Cambiaso, Alessandro Marcandalli, Pietro Comuzzo and Fabio Miretti.

For the former Juventus man, the Premier League adventure never took off. Even during his second year at Liverpool, the player struggled to find space. Despite a total of 33 appearances between competitions, his actual minutes remained small, limiting his season’s haul to 3 goals and 3 total assists (including 2 goals in the Premier League and one in the Champions League). Numbers testifying to a role as a supporting player and prompting Como to attempt the big blow to bring him back to Italy as a star player.
