A few-second video immediately went viral on social media: Jannik Sinner and his girlfriend Laila Hasanovic were spotted on the streets of Monte Carlo on Wednesday. The world number one, who had just returned from Milan where he underwent some examinations at San Raffaele, decided to take a scooter ride through the streets of the Principality with his girlfriend, who is free from commitments at this time.

And here they are on the four-time Slam winner’s blazing red scooter: he in a black T-shirt and sunglasses, she in a flashy red helmet. The Azure returned to work just on Wednesday, resuming his preparation for the upcoming Wimbledon tournament.

Sinner is still in the relaxation phase, however, and he wanted to enjoy a few hours of freedom on the hot Monte Carlo day before really getting serious. His goal is to redeem his elimination in the second round at Roland Garros and confirm himself at Wimbledon after last year’s historic success.

Examinations at St. Raphael’s, which covered a full package of cardiac and metabolic checks, would not reveal any significant physical problems. What happened in Paris, where Sinner was one game away from victory over Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo before physically collapsing, would be attributable to a general state of fatigue that had accrued after more than two months of intense competitive activity with little opportunity for recovery, aggravated by the extreme weather conditions experienced in the French capital. Danish model Laila Hasanovic remained by the South Tyrolean champion’s side at all times, even following him on the mini-vacation on a boat in Sardinia spent with some friends before the clinical examinations, and then joining him in Milan.
