In just over ten days, the summer transfer window will officially open, and Cagliari will be on the hunt for a new midfielder: Fabio Pisacane needs reinforcements in midfield, especially given the departure of Michael Folorunsho, who will return to Fiorentina after an excellent season in Sardinia.

The Rossoblù club’s latest target is Aster Vranckx, a midfielder born in 2002 who spent last season on loan at Sassuolo. He didn’t shine in the black-and-green jersey (just under 700 minutes spread across 22 games and 0 goals), but his numerous muscle injuries certainly didn’t help him perform at his best.

Sassuolo has decided not to buy him outright from Wolfsburg, but the German club intends to put him back on the market immediately. It’s possible that Tommaso Giulini will propose a loan with an option to buy or a mandatory buyout contingent on Vranckx’s personal and team performance targets.

Having come up through the Zaventem youth system, the Belgian then moved to Mechelen before transferring to Wolfsburg in 2021 for 8 million euros. The following year, he was loaned to Milan, where he made 10 appearances for the Rossoneri before being sent back to Germany.
