Wout van Aert will miss the Tour de France due to an elbow injury, a decision that had been in the air and was officially announced by his team, Team Visma | Lease a Bike, a little over two weeks before the race’s scheduled start in Barcelona on July 4.

The Belgian rider was involved in a crash during training ahead of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, sustaining an injury that has forced him to deal with this issue. Wout van Aert had initially managed to take part in the French race, even going on to claim a stage victory.

Subsequently, however, his condition worsened due to an infection, forcing him to withdraw early from the competition, skip the team’s high-altitude training camp, and ultimately announce that he would not be participating in the Tour.
