The World Cup seems to have reawakened Jonathan David’s scoring instinct; he scored a hat trick in Canada’s most recent match against Qatar. He’ll be back on the field Wednesday night to face Switzerland, and during the pre-match press conference, the forward also spoke about his future.

“I’ll stay at Juventus; I have a five-year contract, so as far as I’m concerned, I’m still here. Juventus and the national team are two different environments, with two different systems. As a striker, though, every goal gives you more confidence for the next match. That’s my current mindset,” the striker said.

Countless Juventus fans vented their frustration on social media: “Are you just going to sit around gathering dust? I don’t want to see you on the field anymore,” declared Manuel, echoed by Gianni: “I hope they sell you as soon as possible—forget about staying in Turin… one of the worst blunders in recent years.” There are thousands of messages like this online.

The mood among Juventus fans is driven by Jonathan David’s poor performance in the Bianconeri jersey: the Canadian forward has scored just 8 goals in 46 official matches, numbers far below those he posted at Lille.
