Tragedy in Fano: Soccer Player Dies at Just 27

A terrible tragedy has struck Fano, a city of nearly 60,000 residents in the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche region. Edoardo Vispi, a young soccer player and captain of Tre Ponti—a team competing in the third division—died in a traffic accident.
According to reports in *Il Resto del Carlino*, the young man had left his family’s bar on his motorcycle to return home when a horrific collision with an SUV occurred. Emergency medical services, the traffic police, and the fire department arrived on the scene immediately, and paramedics attempted to resuscitate him, but his injuries were too severe, and there was nothing they could do.
“Fano woke up today in shock. In this moment of great sadness, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, sharing in their immense grief,” said Mayor Luca Serfilippi.
“There are some pieces of news we would never want to hear. This morning, one such piece of news shattered the peace of mind of each and every one of us,” wrote the Tre Ponti sports club on social media. “Edoardo Vispi, our captain, is no longer with us. A tragic accident at the break of day has torn him away from his family, his fiancée Alice, and all of us.”
“A wonderful young man, a pillar and driving force of our club. Edo was always the first to show up and give his all—a young man who, over the years, had grown in stature as a player and, above all, as a person. From today on, the team will always have a 12th man somewhere, supporting and cheering the team on in its matches. The President, the Coach, the Management, and the entire team share in the family’s grief. Goodbye, Edo—captain forever!”
