Tyrus McGee is switching teams again

Second consecutive promotion and second straight departure for Tyrus McGee after achieving the goal. “Tezenis Verona bids farewell and thanks Tyrus McGee, who will not be part of the Gialloblù roster for the 2026/27 season. To Tyrus, a leader and one of the iconic figures of the Gialloblù season, the club extends its best wishes for the continuation of his personal and athletic career. His charisma, personality, and ability to lead the team in decisive moments were crucial in the journey that brought Tezenis back to Serie A,” reads the statement released by the Verona-based club.
During the 2025–26 season in the second division, McGee averaged 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 45 games, shooting 44.4% from three-point range and 83.9% from the free-throw line. Last year, the 1991-born player helped Cantù return to Serie A.
It’s a familiar story, then, for the guard from Stringtown, Oklahoma: in the summer of 2025 as well, after leading Pallacanestro Cantù to promotion to Serie A, McGee left the Brianza-based club to join Verona. He’s a player who seems to have it in his DNA to achieve his goal and then move on, leaving an indelible mark on every team he’s played for.
McGee’s journey with Cantù wasn’t without its obstacles: during the 2024–25 season, he had to deal with two muscle injuries to his right thigh, which sidelined him for a total of over two months. Despite these physical challenges, he managed to carve out a starring role at the decisive moment, finishing the playoffs with an average of 13.9 points over 11 games and playing a decisive role in the Lombardy team’s promotion run.
McGee’s career is, after all, studded with titles and achievements earned around the world: from the Scudetto won with Reyer Venezia in 2016–17 to the FIBA Europe Cup won with Dinamo Sassari in 2019, including the Israeli league title won with Hapoel Holon in 2021–22. A track record that attests to the 35-year-old American’s ability to excel in the most competitive environments—a trait that has made him a sought-after player on the European market season after season.
