Fortitudo Bologna adds a “local boy” to its roster for the 2026–2027 season: Matteo Galassi, who turned 28 on July 4, is returning to play in his hometown after accepting the challenge offered by Fortitudo, which will once again attempt to reach the top division following the bitter end to the season just concluded.

Having come up through the youth systems of Virtus, Fortitudo, and Pontevecchio—where he made his Serie C debut at a very young age—Galassi played for Lugo, Ozzano, and Bologna Basket in the lower divisions before moving up to A2 with Treviglio, Vigevano, and then back to Treviglio. “A physical guard with solid technique, Matteo can be another weapon for Coach Cavina,” the club explains in its press release.

Fortitudo Bologna head coach Demis Cavina explained the reasons behind the club’s decision to sign Galassi: “We chose Matteo with the goal of deepening our roster by adding a player who has extensive experience in Serie B but has also already played one season in A2. He’ll need to be ready to go from the very first day of training, and I’ve sensed his determination to give his all for the team. Technically, he can play the guard position and will round out a roster that, at this point, is only missing a foreign player.”

The Bologna-born player himself is excited: “I thank the club and the staff for this opportunity to play in the city where I was born. I’m ready to step up and give my all to help the team, always making myself available to the group. I can’t wait to start this new adventure, get to know the team, the staff, and the fans, and experience this season with great enthusiasm and determination. See you soon on the court.”
