2026 World Cup: Adani’s pro-Argentina commentary sparks controversy; social media uproar

Lele Adani took center stage (as a commentator) during the 2026 World Cup semifinal between Argentina and England. The former defender, serving as the second commentator for Rai alongside Alberto Rimedio, experienced the Albiceleste’s comeback victory (2-1) with his usual emotional fervor, letting loose with cheers and passionate commentary whenever Lionel Scaloni’s team scored.
Adani’s enthusiasm reached its peak when Argentina scored the go-ahead goal, as he celebrated Messi with an exclamation destined to go viral: “Messi’s legend is infinite!” The intensity of the commentary was such that, by the end of the match, the commentator was practically hoarse.
While some appreciated the former defender’s engagement and passion, others unleashed a veritable wave of criticism on social media. On X, in fact, numerous users accused Adani of commentating on the match with an attitude that was excessively biased in favor of Argentina.
Among the most shared messages was one from a user who wrote: “Enough with over-the-top technical commentators like Adani—he’s crude, excessive, and above all, annoying.” Others openly referred to it as “commentary from an Argentina fan,” while some even called for a petition to have him removed from Rai.
