The English club values the defender at 30 million euros, a figure Napoli considers excessive—especially given that the Frenchman made only 16 appearances last season and is not currently part of Xabi Alonso’s plans. From Castel Volturno, the stance is clear: the deal can only go through as a loan with an option to buy, not as a mandatory transfer. And this is precisely where the Blues’ first “no” comes in, as they are unwilling (at least for now) to accept such a flexible arrangement.

Negotiations remain open; Napoli does not want to give up but is forced to change its approach: without selling players, it cannot seal the deal, and without a deal structure acceptable to Chelsea, it cannot even put together a sustainable transfer.
