Varese Transfer Market: A Run on the Former Olimpia Players

Openjobmetis Varese has set its sights once again on an old flame: Ismael Kamagate. The French player, born in 2001, who previously played in Italy from 2003 to 2005 for Olimpia Milano and Derthona, had recently been linked to the red-and-white club, which now appears determined to make a serious move.

Two weeks ago, according to rumors, Varese had presented a multi-year offer that was subsequently rejected by the center. Now the Lombardy-based team is back on the offensive, resuming contract talks through the French player’s new agency. This is reported by La Prealpina.

Kamagate played last season for Besiktas, where he reached the EuroCup final. In the Turkish league, he averaged 8.4 points and 5.9 rebounds, in line with his performance during his season at Derthona. In Varese, there is reportedly optimism that a deal is imminent: he would be the latest addition to a very significant signing campaign by Openjobmetis.

The frontcourt has clearly been the focus of the Lombardy club’s considerations during this transfer window. In recent weeks, according to La Prealpina, the club also evaluated Kur Kuath, a 208-centimeter South Sudanese center they had already been tracking last summer: fresh off a stint in Gran Canaria following his development in Hamburg, Kuath represented the type of athletic, defensive, and vertical big man that management was looking for to round out the rotations.
