Turin Transfer Market: The Granata Have Made Their Decision—A Sacrifice in Midfield

A midfield transfer is on the horizon for Torino. The Granata want to finalize their roster but hope to raise funds first by completing a few outgoing transfers. Gvidas Gineitis has been the prime candidate to leave for days now; he is being targeted by several clubs, including Celtic, which has already submitted an official offer.

According to Tuttosport, Torino has rejected the Scots’ initial offer of 7.5 million euros but expects a revised bid, either from the British club or from one of the Bundesliga clubs that has set its sights on the former SPAL player, born in 2004.

According to rumors, Torino values the player at around 15 million euros but is open to negotiation under the right terms, such as the inclusion of certain bonuses and a percentage of any future resale. Celtic is reportedly ready to raise its offer to 10 million euros for now. What is certain is that Ignazio Abate and the Granata executives consider Gineitis expendable in order to replenish the club’s coffers and make other signings.

Celtic has targeted Gineitis to fill the void left by Arne Engels, who departed this past summer. The Lithuanian, born in 2004, joined Torino in 2022 after a stint at SPAL. He has made 73 appearances across all competitions for Torino, scoring three goals, and has also made 32 appearances and scored five goals for the Lithuanian national team. Torino has already signed Dutch playmaker Kian Fitz-Jim on a permanent basis for the midfield for approximately 4 million euros, beating out competition from Porto: the arrival of the 2003-born player has effectively made one of Gineitis, Ilic, or Anjorin expendable.
